what is the acceptable range of temperture for an Athlon?

I have a temperature sensor but not sure where to set the threshold.

Here is what the default temp overheat defaults are in my hardware monitoring utility.
cpu:50c
system:50c
also the hysteresis temps are cpu:40c and system 40c. I have no idea what hysteresis is for,if anyone can explain that would be nice.
