how strict are they on the ID's? All i got is my passport and a gym card...
when I took it you had to have at least one photo ID and one other ID, your SS card should work with your passport.

assuming you're taking it at Sylvan, it's a pc test, you get your certificate when you pass before you leave, a confirmation letter is mailed to you.

Actually the A+ test consists of two parts, the Operating System part and the Hardware part. You can either take two at once concurrently or you can decide to take one now and one later. You have to pass both before you're A+ certified.
true, most people take both parts at the same time.

Are you sure you're talking about taking the new 2003 objectives? Most of you have probably taken the pre-2003 objectives which were very easy and were commonly taken both at the same time. Now with the new objectives, it isn't as easy as it once was.

The 2003 is EASIER than the old one. People are more familiar with the 2003 stuff, than the old DOS and IRQs crap.

Really? Interesting. How do you know it's easier for everyone?

Because the vast majority of testers these days grew up in Windows 9x or higher. Not DOS or Windows 3.11

I have to agree. The 03 objectives (took both at the same time) are a lot easier b/c lets face it, unless you're older and you did tech support work hardcore before, a lot of that stuff isn't as easy.

I took it in 99 too and thought it was pretty easy. I tried to study for it but never did get around to it so i basically walked in blind with just my real world experience and a quick memorization of I/O addresses. I agree that hardware and troubleshooting is a lot easier nowadays than before, but the test could very well be more difficult as the old one wasn't very hard.

Ok i took the test today, the guy really didnt want to accept the gym card, but he eventually did. I took the test and thought it was really really hard. I ended up getting a 784 with a 515 passing grade, or an 87.1%. Now onto the software... and I said IRQ's are only like 16 things to remember... because there are 16 of them... I/O addresses on the other hand are a little more complicated...

I passed that hardware one too. I hear the software one is much harder.

Hey, Im' 16 and taking the A+ test tommorow (hardware portion) . I have never taken a certification test before. I was wondering what is it like? Am I the only one taking it at a time? Its on a computer correct? And I was wondering if anyone knows how hard it is compared to the practice finals on the Mike Myers All in one exam guide... I passed all 3 of them so I am feeling good. Thanks for your help and please tell me anything else you think I should know.

The A+ is such a low end cert that you shouldn't even bother taking it. I took the CCNA and even that was a total waste of time. I learned my lesson- no useless certs.

Remember that he's 16. I took the test at around 17/18 and at that time it was nice having something other than my own opinion that I was decent at hardware and troubleshooting. To the average laymen or even HR person, a certified technician is better than a non certified technician, especially when you're 18 or under. Chances are, he doesn't have a lot of "professional" experience that he can cite as evidence of his expertise. So a cert can come in handy there.

that's a 6 hour test right there. each section (hardware, software) is 3 hours.

i took my A+ in march. it's multiple choice on a computer. after you're done, you can review your answers or submit it and you'll more likely than not walk out certified in the hardware portion -- you're not A+ certified until you complete the software portion (which is my situation at the moment).
Is it 3 hours on avg or 3 hours max ?

Congrats on passing! You might want to look into the Network+ after you finish the A+ cert.

Just to let you know, we had an A+ class for ~ 2 hours every day except Mondays for most of the Semester before I had my test. I learned a bit in there, but most everything important I already knew for it, just not some of the details. I was in and out, done with both tests, in about an hour, passed both.

If you know your ish then you'll do well.

JUST SAW YOU PASSED. GOOD JOB!
