I had posted about harvester groupings before but I did not think this was one because I did not see the little bodies amongst the legs. Here's the pic I had posted before. It's in someone's basement and you can see the bodies quite clearly, maybe because they were disturbed by the light and started spreading out on the ceiling above the guy's head.

Why do they group like that? Are they mating, or just setting up an advantageous defense?

This has set up the ultimate battle tonight between my new mattress and these images. Which one will win the battle of control over my sleep?

If I came across that pile of nastyness I would definitely come back with a flamethrower.

Why would anyone want to kill daddy long legs, they're so cute. That said, when I was a kid, we use to catch them and pull their legs off one-by-one. LOL.

LOL I used to the the same as a kid. So cruel now that I think about it, but I was a little terror as a kid. I also put 120v through caterpillars.

Didn't the myth busters prove they are not really that deadly even if they were able to bite?

Granted those look different then the ones we call daddy long legs around here but I believe they are all about the same.

Interesting, so it's a whole myth then. Good to know since I get a lot of those in my entrance and I'm always scared one makes it in the house when I open the door, and that my cat eats it. Guess I don't have to worry so much.

The Mythbusters were testing with those basement spiders, which actually are spiders. Everyone around here calls the harvestman "daddy long legs," so I think that was one of the most flawed tests ever.

Kinda like the time they concluded that CDs do not explode in computer disc drives (I've had it happen multiple times).

You can think it was flawed, but their is only one Daddy Long Legs spider.

It doesn't matter if other things are called Daddy Long Legs... should they have tested the cranefly found in other parts of the world?

There is absolutely no such thing as venom or poison in any creature that could be called a Harvestman; there are thousands of species in the Order, and not a single one can produce venom.

The Cellar Spider is the only creature that can be called Daddy Long Legs which also produces venom.

From what I can tell, far more people call the harvestman "daddy long legs." People think they are spiders.

Around here, the myth about them being "the most venomous spider" applies to the harvestman, because most people believe they are spiders.

For all you know, the myth has always referred to the harvestman.

Right, but how would you propose they test an untestable myth that's busted before it even starts?

This.

Sure, maybe where the rumors originated, the Cellar Spider doesn't exist (not it's native habitat).
But considering it's scientifically impossible for Harvestmen to produce venom, it's completely worthless to host on a show about busting myths.

"So today, we have this myth ..blah blah blah. Here's a Harvestman. Myth Busted. Why? No venom glands. Case closed."

I guess you could show video of a dissection. :\

I guess they could have at least said something regarding the few "versions" of the Daddy Long Legs. But they probably wanted to at least showcase a true Spider, one with venom glands.

At least mention the harvestman and explain that it's not a spider and has no venom...or skip that myth entirely.
