What is special about win XP corporate edition

because it is for corporations only .... and the license for one probably costs tens of thousands of dollars.

Is there anything else different about Windows XP Corp. then regular Windows XP? Is it like the Pro or Personal version minus the activation stuff?

It is pro without the activation.

Can you imagine a large company (like the one I work for, I'd estimate 1,200 PC's in the building) having to register each & every copy?

It'd be a bitch and a half.

I probably won't buy XP unless I can find a way to get a legitimate corporate copy. Either that or buy Pro & use a copy of Corporate. I will pay for it one way or another, but I really don't want to have to use the activation.

Exactly what I was thinking! Since I can't (and won't) use an illegal copy I have no other choice for now. 🙁

Buy the retail shrinkwrapped version, download the corp. edition off IRC, install the corp edition and you're set. Nothing illegal about that, as you paid for a license to use XP Pro.
 
I don't think you have to activate the educational version either. I got it from the campus bookstore and I didn't have to activate it. I also noticed that all of them have the same key. Not to mention it only cost $15! 😀
 
Actually, it'd still be illegal for you to buy the full pro edition then download a corp edition online. The liscense you paid for was specifically for the pro edition, and I'm pretty certain that somewhere in the EULA for the pro edition it says you HAVE to register for an activation key, basically meaning you're not allowed to try and circumvent it at all. Now obviously, most people are not going to care but *technically* it is still illegal. I personally think this method is a somewhat moral way to get past the activation, certainly better than just downloading it off the internet and never giving Microsoft a cent. I know, I've looked into it myself! 😀 But don't worry, I ended up going legit in the end.
