what is software cooling?

On the Asus probe, it shows a software cooling option, what excactly does it do? and should I enable it?

it sends halt commands to the halt which sorta "turn it off" for a split second... without going into more depth it does work, but the temperature difference caused by a software cooler can do more damage then its worht IMHO.

where exactly do u find this software colling i cheaked all of the asus probe and couldnt find it?

Software cooling functions by sending commands to the CPU to stop work, programs like this include Rain and Waterfall, they tell the CPU to stop performing calculations etc.. so in theory the cpu runs cooler when not in use. It doesn't hurt to use it, so go ahead.

More specifically, it's the HLT command that is used, and is found in the Linux kernel, and windows NT kernel.

EDIT: spelling (thanks konichiwa😛 )

Nt based operating systems including Win2K have this feature incorporated in the operating system already so these cooling programs are of no value to them. If you are cracking RC-5 or some other distributed computing setup they are of no value also.

In Asus probe ver. 2.14.01 go to the settings tab, then on the bottom right of the screen there's a tab that says CPU cooling setup.
