what is softmodding?

like if you have certain types of 9500 np, there is a software hack you can install to turn it into a 9700. and i think their might be one to turn a 9700 into a 9800
 
Wasn't that soft-mod included in the cat 3.4 drivers and above or do you still have use soft-mod application to turn 9700 PRO > 9800 ?
 
Im using the catalyst 3.4's right now, I didn't want to install the 3.6's right before my LAN party. I heard that 3.6's were having issues with Ravenshield. Where can I get the Omega drivers with the 9700 Pro > 9800 soft-mod? I will download them tonight.
 
There's a radeon 9500 pro hack out that allows for overclocking of the video card as most of them are locked. I use this on mine and I can get some really nice overclocks out of my card.
 
well, i downloaded the omega drivers and installed the 'hacked' drivers, but avery program still reports my card as a 9700pro, and it hasn't increased in speed.

Have i missed something?
 
dl'ed Omega's last night (3.6) but haven't installed them yet. I also dL'ed cat 3.6 debating on whether to install them first and compare benches for cat 3.4's or just go straight to the Omega's. Any suggestions?
