What is so special about the Canon G5?

I hear everyone raving about the G5.
On the plus side for the G5 it's 5mp instead of 4mp, smaller, and has a focus assist lamp. However video is limited to 3 minutes at 15fps and the zoom is only 4x.

Panasonic's DMC-FZ10 camera is about $50 more but has a 12x zoom with Electronic Image Stabilization and video only limited by the size of the memory card.

Besides size, why would I want to get the G5 over the FZ10?

which has the bigger sensor? i mean it literally

According to Steves Digicams the FZ10's 4mp sensor is 1/2.5", and the G5's 5mp sensor 1/1.8"

So what do those measurements mean? Is the FZ10 or G5's sensor larger. I understand the bigger the sensor the more light gets in but I don't understand which one is larger. Does he mean it's 1x2.5" and 1x1.8" or something else?

g5 is a great camera... i shoot both film and digital and run iPhotoForum.com - so i get these debates all the time

what it comes down to is what's the camera gonna b used for... if your never printing, or never printing over 5x7's - a 4mp camera will do you just fine... because a 5mp camera will just take up more space per photo on the memory card and you'll b shrinking it down for the web anyway... and if you don't shoot in the highest rez, then you might as well buy a 2mp camera.

search IPF - theres articles on there that come up daily.

personaly - i prefer nikon p&s digitals (i bought a 775 in oct 2000) and canon dslr's (bought a canon 10d last fall)

If I had the money I would buy an Eos Digital Rebel in a heartbeat. Nothing can touch the picture quality on it. I'll check out your forums. Thanks.

On a side note, What would my canon G2 be worth? It is in perfect condition. I'm thinking about selling it and buying a new digital camera.. I don't want to spend any extra money though. I had paid $720 for it.. like 2 years ago I think..

digital cameras take picture

digital video cams take video

they shouldent be doing the others job ever
