Was wondering if anyone could fill me in about these amd t-bird 1ghz axia batches. I heard the were good for overclocking? if they are should i get this instead of a higher priced amd t-bird 1.33ghz?
responses appreciated.

they apparently have very good o/clocking potential!
do a search for AXIA & you'll get lots of hits! :)

-Also, if they are in fact quite overclockable does it particularly rely on certain motherboards to do the trick-or can i simply purchase any socket a motherboards with overclocking features? and is it all axia batches in general? i heard something about stepping?

AXIA is the stepping .... there seems to be some issue with how well AXIA cores from different weeks of production overclock. Many are saying that the latest AXIA cores from week 14-15 are not as good of overclockers as the cores from weeks 10-11.

As to the motherboard, you can probably pick up a decent one for under $100. But on the other hand a top notch IWILL or ASUS board will only run you a little more (both can be found for under $130) and offer many more features such as on board RAID, better cooling, jumperless setup, blah blah blah.

On the core of the CPU, 1st line identifies the speed. Second line identifies if it is an AXIA/AVIA etc. After AXIA the next 2 numbers identifies the year & the next 2 numbers the week of manufacture. The 3rd line if its starts with a letter "K" or "Y" is a good sign it is very overclockable.

I actually thought that the article quoted was pretty funny. The reviewer complains that he is "disappointed that the such-and-such" 1 gig processor would only hit 1330 mhz stable.

I mean, you get an extra 30% FREE cpu cycles out of a sub $150 part and you complain?

People don't know how good they have it now. I remember paying $250 for a 200 mhz part not that long ago and $200 for a 32 meg stick of RAM.
