I guess I'm just used to it by now........such a simple last name for me, "Hsu"...but the problems it causes...at least it makes it easy to screen telemarketers 🙂

WTF?
:Q:Q:Q:Q:QPeople don't pronounce my first or last name right. My last name has a silent letter... its too tricky I guess🙁

Yeah, why can't anyone pronounce my last name? People who can't pronounce names are dumb

It's Karaszewski, BTW. Take your best shot...

Hmmm... Car-uh-shev-ski?
If you were a coach, they'd definitely call you "Coach K".
😛

People seem to like to change my name around... mine is cawley.... they like to add an "R" "Crawley" or change the "A" to an "O" cowley.... I've gotten to the point where if you think I'm gonna respond in class when you decide to add a letter to my last name I guess I am not in the class then.

Care-uh-zuh-whiskey? (Kinda slur it all together in one syllable really fast. It sounds Polish or Czech)

The problem is that pronunciations depend on one's heritage. Cavalier (Cav - a - leer) the "American way or (ca -va - lee- ay) "the French way"

(Or the idiocy of one's parents, for instance the parents who named their children Orangejello {O - RAN - jel - lo} , Lemonjello {le - MON - gel - lo}, and Monkey {Mon - kay}... )

I once dated a girl with the last name Mituniewicz... so I've had some practice pronouncing last names. 😉

At least your name is not Michael Bolton!

EDIT: My name is Janne, and I need to talk to foreigners quite often. Usually they pronounce my name "Jane" 🙂Q) or "Jan". Both are wrong. It's more like "Jan-Ne"

You guys are missing the point.

Why do so many people screw up the EASY names? Eileen and Javier don't seem complicated to me.
Eileen is spelled many different ways (usually by someone wanting to be 'different'), so that could explain why your girlfriend sees it spelled differently.

And for Javier, does he prefer the American "Jae-vee-ur" pronunciation or the Spanish "haw-vee-ER" pronunciation (which was just a take-off of the English Xavier to begin with)?

My roommate's name is Javier. A puerto rican name, granted, but not ONE single courtesy caller can get it right. I just got a call from someone asking if "Java" was home. I literally laughed in his face.

My girlfriend's name is Eileen. Not the MOST common, granted, but very american. People can't SPELL this one! "Ileane" "Eyeleen" "Irene" "Ilene"

WHAT THE HELL?????

I can see people can't spell Eileen.... "Havier", however is a more common name that people should get right.
