beer does taste like crap, but hey, if you think you will get the chicks with that beer belly, then more power to you.

YOU DONT need beer to have fun. or anytype of alcohol, or drugs. its called having a personality.

Hey, Frenchie, it might kill brain cells, but IT ONLY KILLS THE WEAK ONES!! It's doesn't do damage -- it makes you more efficient, killing off those wasteful, weak cells and leaving only the basic motor functions. :D

Seriously, I used to drink a fair amount, but I hardly do anymore. I do still drink at least once a week or so, but it's because I really do like the taste of beer and wine. I think the worst part about drinking excessively is the dehydration that accompanies it -- if I have one or two beers, I have to drink about a half gallon of water to counteract the diuretic effects.

I feel sorry for people who don't drink, though. There is little better that you can drink than a fine glass of red wine. :)

I can technically say I lost my girlfriend (of 2 and a half years) to alcohol.. her friend "pressured" her into it so they'd "fit in" with the rest of the HS crowd.. (bleh) except they'd sit and drink alone so be stupid (and drive, which is the stupidest fvcking thing in the world..) she hid this behind my back for the longest time, and then I started to figure it out, got pissed, etc.. i put up with it for a while until it became her life.. she's basically an alcoholic (at 17)..

a few years ago or even months ago if you asked me if it was possible to be an alcoholic and be under 21 (or even 30) i would have said no.. and it still seems weird to me, but it's true and disgusting.. i think some people have "fun" with it, but she's just stupid..

ok, that was a PURE vent.. i'm sorry:D

EDIT: I neglected to mention that BOTH times i was with her when she was drunk, in front of me, she was getting VERY friendly with my best friend (we are no longer friends..he knew what he was doing and tried to lie to me later..bleh) and yes, it involved the absense of many items clothing (and no, i didn't watch)..not all the way, but pretty damn close.. Sorry..more venting:)

After a long, hard day of wiping fannies and serving my family and community, I like a nice big glass of wine.

It makes it harder for me to hear my daughters fighting over who gets to take the next shower, who stole the beloved pony-tail scrunchie, etc. It also makes it MUCH easier for me to watch TeleTubbies, The Comfy Couch, and Tots TV with my toddler. I enjoy feeling slightly removed from the fray after 7PM.

However, anything beyond one or two glasses of wine I inevitably regret, so I avoid it.

Nothing. It makes you sick and stupid.

In part I agree with myputer. I don't think they can stop themselves once they get started, whether it be due to peer pressure or the desire (perhaps overly so) to unwind.

Those who go out and stay drunk all weekend should ask themselves if what they're doing is really truly fun.

For those that are smart drinkers, kudos to you for knowing when enough is enough.

What I'd give for a toke of bud, though.

Yeah that guy knows what's up. ;) I don't see what's so great about alcohol though.

As long as you know your limit, alcohol can really make a fun night, even more fun. Take bowling for example. Some of the most fun that I've had involved 6 of us, several pitchers of beer, and 3 games of bowling. Alcohol and lan parties can also make for some interesting death matches :)

But, it's all about moderation. There's a reason that I haven't touched anything stonger than 14% (which was a wine by the way) in nearly 2 years. Mixed drinks and hard alcohol just make for a disaster. It's too hard to judge yourself when drinks like long islands and zombies taste so good, yet pack so much punch.

Beer on the other hand is pretty easy to regulate. It also has far less alcohol per ounce of fluid so I usually get "full" before I get "wasted".

If you can moderate yourself and you don't get behind the wheel, alcohol + some activities can make for very fun times.

"What I want to know is how some people out there drink and drink and never seem to get to that pass-out/puke stage."

When I was in grad school I met this 4'11" slender woman who drank like a fish. But, she was (a) steady, and (b) regular about her drinking. There's some enzyme or whatever that the liver produces in the presence of alcohol. If you don't drink regularly then the body doesn't produce this thing, so it's easier to get drunk to the point of sickness. That, and practice does make perfect....;)

I dare say that I can understand why some people would want to drink as a means of avoiding problems or escaping them, butI personally would not do that. Mainly because then you wake up the next morning with yet another problem on top of the ones you already had before. (OK, actually it's because I can't stand the taste of alcohol, other than good wine, which is beyond the budget of a college kid.) For the record since I'm only 18, the only times I have had alcohol were at family gatherings when my father would give me the occasional taste of beer.

I have had too much to drink on a few occassions, but have learned my lesson... when I drink too much it's usually because I get "caught up in the moment" and don't stop. I also am a "light-weight" and get drunk after just a few drinks.

I have friends though who regularly drink far too much, they apparently just enjoy the depressed sense of morals and behaviour changes that come with being really drunk.

Why do people consume mind altering substances? Because it feels good. I like getting drunk once and a while, definately not weekly because it is pretty hard on the body. When I drink, I dont bother getting buzzed, its either wasted or nothing.

I prefer chronic much more though.

It's not fun to get drunk. You only think that it's fun when you're drinking beer/wine/anything stronger. The next morning you're not so sure anymore ;)

I haven't drunk more than one glass of beer and two wine. Beer tastes like crap.

I've come to the conclusion that you're actually a smart guy if you don't drink alcohol and never get drunk. It's so much healthier for your body.

Elledan,

I used to think beer tasted like crap, then I tried some Guiness, New Castle and Fat Tire.... beer does not taste like crap.

I used to think that coffee tasted like crap, then I tried some quality home-roast made in a vacuum pot. coffee = yum!

I Agree, everyone's tastes are different, I happen to like the taste of beer, and drink it with meals regularly.

Well I'm not sure of what you mean by "smart" but I have a friend who is a ME/EE double major who has a 4.0 GPA and he's drunk 6 out 7 nights a week!!

the funny part is that how many people that get drunk were sick the last time they did and swore they would never do it again, then there they are the next payday, blowing it all on another hangover

nice learning curve, eh

gunf1ghter,

Been there, done that. I have tried three totally different kinds of beer (Heineken, Amster, Vos) with the same result: YUCK!!

For coffee counts the same: I had to drink a few gallons of water before I thought that I didn't taste coffee anymore.

It's ok with me if someone drinks beer/wine/coffee, but it's not for me.

Elledan is pretty sure that he's the most intelligent creature on this planet. Take what he says with a grain of salt. And when you're done with the salt, pass it over here. I'll use the rest on the rim of my glass.

SirFshAlot

The fundamental problem is that alcohol impairs your ability to reason. The first beer is just a casual drink with friends. The rest are involuntary. :)

I agree - it's pretty stupid...but I think it's okay to unwind every once in a while and have a few drinks...but not to the point where you wake up with a hangover. Stuff just seems more fun when you have a little booze in you. I'm a very casual drinker...maybe once or twice a month at the most and it's never to the point of waking up with a headache and puking.

I've watched about 8 episodes of ER. I'm pretty sure that I can perform open heart surgery now.
