recently i got my Dell 4500 and i reinstalled the XP system
due to some problems. then i found from
control panel->system->hardware device
that there is one device does not have driver.
it belongs to other device and it is called a SM BUS controller. (PCI BUS 0, device 31, function 3).

know what does this mean? i cannot find the driver from the CDs came with the machine.
so i am wondering if there is no such a device existing in my system at all.

anybody has a clue?
thanks!

yes, i tried that restore cd but cannot find anything called SM BUS controller.
only found something like BUS controller and installed it but the SM BUS
problem still exists. since my 1394 card is not working properly(might because
of software problem), i want to make sure no hardware makes trouble first.

thanks.

Goto Intel and download the INF: intel82801DB1CHY for WinXP Intel. Make sure your 4500 is using the Intel D845EPT2 motherboard. Motherboard link.

Good luck.

P.S. Don't forget to download USB 2.0 cause it was not built in with Win XP.
