What is SAP?

SAP is a business software tool used mainly in finance and accounting. It can be very complex and costly.

Secondary Audio Program or SAP channel.

TV's in this region NOT set to listen to them usually means you're listening in Spanish.

sap

i've always heard the term in a "ERP" or "CRM" context
ERP=enterprise resource planning
CRM=customer relationship management

They have modules that cover the whole spectrum of business needs. The only one I'm familiar with is the SD module.

I googled it but didn't get very good results. What would you do as an SAP consultant?

You help clients install/configure/setup their SAP application...

You need to get certified though, a number of my friends are doing it and they have been studying like crazy...

So there would be a lot of programming involved?

SAP is an ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning) tool. It's comparable to BPCS(Business Process Control Systems), and JDEdwards.

It is EXPENSIVE to take the tests and get certified too. But ya, SAP has modules for all areas of bussiness, from Finance, to sales, to material management. Each client requires slightly different functions and settings. SAP consultants can be everything from people who help with the initital setup, to those who help with upgrades, to those who simply come in and write programs for reports. They make big money.

I don't think there's A LOT of programming, but there are some from what they talked about...

I don't know for sure since I'm not doing it...

Yeah that's what I heard too... of course our firm is paying for all the certification costs so my friends don't care... they just need to study and pass...

No programming, AFAIK, my knowledge on this is a few years outdated though

It won't be easy at all getting certified!

I'm sure the consultants love it since they are getting paid big bucks to work on it 😉

SAP consultant is somebody who has implementation and BASIS experience and GO-LIVE experience with SAP.

SAP is a business application suite that is completely and totally customizable (it even has its own language)

It covers every aspect of business - from ERP to HR to supply chain to data warehouse to portal to just about everything.

I used to work with SAP when I was at IBM. The funny thing is, I never knew what the hell it was.

No, I'm not lying.

$100/hr for a consultant isn't a high rate already... I would say that's around the minimum rate...
