Moved from Boston to SF then to Seattle back to Boston.

Loved SF but the cost of living is very high.

I've lived and worked in SF for many years. It's a beautiful city and unique among other major cities in the US. Someone posted earlier about it being unfriendly and I've never experienced that. Most likely that person brought it on themselves. Also, the part about the races don't mix and something about non-liberal tolerance. A five minute walk down Market Street on any given day will show those statements to be completely untrue.

I would agree that living there is very cost prohibitive and was glad to move away. However, I always look forward to visiting at any time of the day. I would recommend visiting SF to anyone.

Go Giants!!!

I think of all the cities I have visited, none look as beautiful in its surroundings as San Francisco.

Pos:
Great weather, beautiful bay, amazing skyline. It has very good food. So many things to do there culturally. So many great ethnic foods you can try out. Ever try ethiopian food? AT&T Park is a beautiful ball park to visit if you watch baseball. Great outdoor places to bike, walk, run. the streets and cable cars feel unique.

Negs: Foggy and cold most of the time. Lots of homeless and druggies. A bit dirty. Chinatown=Commieville.

People aren't always friendly but thats the case in most big cities.

Considering another move?

No shit, are ATOT's going to have to make another life choice for you?

Uhm, no.

C'mon, please? Bigrash is bored with OT ( http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2178179&enterthread=y ), and we'd all like the chance to heckle you and/or direct your life.

Pretty please?

You people really remember those threads from two years ago? Crazy.

id say its just as hot as dallas, perhaps slightly less humid. it'd register 100* for a handful of days. you'll get weeks of 95* temp.

dallas gets colder in the winter, and snows more frequently (if you can believe that [both cities will receive snow every few winters])

austin has a naturally-chilled, great natural spring pool to bathe in. in dallas youre stuck at home

Foggy and cold compared to what? Seattle? Nah, compare it to SoCal and yeah it's foggy and cold. The foggy aspect isn't that bad unless you live in South City or Daly City. That's where it's cloudy like 75% of the day. But on average SF will be chillier than the East Bay or where i'm from the South Bay. However, on a nice day it is definitely beautiful like this past weekend and what not when I was at the Cherry Blossom Festival. You get a good like 8 months of sunshine or something, so it's nothing to worry about.

Funny that you bring it up because my parents have said Vancouver is one of the few places they would consider living outside of the Bay Area. =)

compared to other areas in California. When I go to SF I always bring a jacket or something warmer. And I have many friends that have visited california expecting warm sunshine only to have most of our pictures of SF showing us in jackets shivering in the wind. Of course its not so bad as Seattle.

And funny how Vancouver also mirrors SF in terms of cost of living. I think they also have a sister bridge to the Golden Gate....

Chinatown=Commieville.

the projects in Chinatown were some of the safest in the city,
when i lived in SF.

plus they got some of the best barbecue pork and duck.

for bars -
Marina
Fillmore near Lombard, south a few blocks

North Beach
Caffe Roma on Broadway, good starting place

Fisherman's Wharf
they're all tourist traps, mostly.

Noe Valley
take the K train, it's like a Disneyland ride.
