What Is Ram Bit Depth?

I want to buy more Ram for my 366mhz Dell Lattitude CPi-A laptop. I need 128mb sdram but I have been told to watch out for the bit depth of the ram because I think it is I need 8x8 bit depth and most 128mb sdram comes at 16x8 bit depth. And 16x8 won't boot my system. I'm completely confused about this. Is there some way you can tell just by looking at the chip. And can someone tell me what the heck ram bit depth is?

I'm not sure what bit depth could possibly have to do with ram. Bit depth is a term used to describe the colour depth of a pixel. As far as I know, the term isn't used with ram.
I think they're talking about ram density. You should look for dual sided sticks and avoid single sided as they are generally more dense.

8Mbitx8 = 64Mbit
16Mbitx8 = 128Mbit

128MByte ram module uses 16 of 64Mbit chips (double side) or 8 of 128Mbit chips (single side).

some chipsets only support up to 64Mbit chips,
laters support up to 128Mbit chips,
then laters support up to 256Mbit chips,
and so on.
