I was going to say that it's a mirrored RAID5 array, but normally that is written 5.1 or 5+1.

RAID 1.5 is a hybrid RAID method that so far I've only seen on the new DFI LanParty motherboards. What it does is stripe and mirror 2 hard drives. I am not sure how they do it, but 2 x 80GB drives will be striped and mirrored giving you performance similar to RAID 5 and redundancy similar to RAID 1. AnandTech's review of the DFI NF2 LanParty motherboard has a brief explanation of RAID 1.5. Check it out...

Doesn't stripping involve 3 hard drives? 2 Hard drives might be the minimum but isn't there only a performance increase in 3?

striping is with 2+ drives, the more drives the better the increase. but if you want performance ans security you need 3+ drives to do raid 5 or 1+0

It's really a RAID 1 array, but it adds the ability to load balances reads similar to a RAID 0 array. It's nothing new, as other cards have done it for years, but Highpoint for whatever reason decided to make up a marketing name for it. Write performance will be just like any other RAID 1 array, reads will be slightly slower than RAID 0.
