What is production support?

GoingUp

Lifer
Going for a second interview on Monday, and I want to figure out what the salary range in the area is for this position. Here is the job description.

The position I will talk to you about is Production Support for 2 very visible applications. Production Support is sort of a catch-all, but in a nutshell it means making sure the 2 systems are available when they're supposed to be and that performance is where it's supposed to be. Both apps are very complex and involve a lot of different infrastructure areas within the company. There's a lot of monitoring and reporting involved, too. We will get into more specifics when you are here.

Salary.com doesnt have anything listed specificly for production support. What job would that be close to being?

sounds like general application support.

so application analyst would be appropriate

hhhmmmm except that this job involves no programming.... I also already have over 3 years of experience in system support and administration. Would that make me a level 2? cripes the salary range would be so huge then... from $45000 up to $70000

Spidey has essentially named it - applications support/applications analyst. Also, throw in some change management roles in addition to the possibility of off-hours pager support and you have the role of a production support person.

I've done the role for many years in the past. Roles of this nature don't always require programming support. However, you could be involved with restarting failed processes, implementing new applications, documenting issues with existing applications and all that good stuff.

Best of luck with your 2nd interview. 🙂
