Hey you! Yes you, x80064's friend. Hello? Got your attention? Good.

You will one day die of stupid. Whatever you do, please don't procreate.

There's nothing wrong with a little "hey-hey!"

But...I would agree that it might endanger the child's life...

How old is your friend, x80064?

Doom 3 in ultra mode does make use of upwards of 500MB of video ram when available. It will look exactly the same on a card with less ram though, it just runs slower with less ram as it has to swap data from system ram instead of being able to fit everything on the card.

The lesson to be learned here is that your friend likes to take what little he does understand and pretend to know it all by making whatever he wants up as he goes along.

More video memory means that textures won't have to be moved in and out so often, thus resulting in better frame rates. A 128MB card could render the same quality image as a equivalent 512MB card, but gameplay would suck.

16 pipes, 16 lanes... That's great. I don't trust anyone for computer advice when they can't spell MONITOR right.

lol your friend needs to do his homework

hell a 48 pipe card could run on a 8x PCI-E if you wanted, the connectors are the same. just means it gets less bandwidth to and from the system, and wether that has a performance impact (ie 8x vs 16x) has yet to be seen really

i see hes one of these more Vram = better and faster

"It's just like saying you can run ultra quality with 256 mb vid card. You can get some of the benifits of ultra quality but you can't get the right frame buffer without 512mb vid card"

lol, so does he wanna upgrade from a 7900GT to a 7300 with 512mb?

Oh, and the whole motherboard 16 pixel pipes thing....He wasnt even directing that towards me to begin with. It was another forum member. I just called him out on it...then he said hook...line...sinker. So does that mean he was just messing with the OP also ? Or just trying to save himself ?

Here is the thread where the debate is. http://clan-mortis.com/forum.html/viewtopic.php?t=23

dude, even in the day's of AGPx8, not all the bandwidth was being used. They upgraded to PCI-e to increase the overhead even more but even now the overhead is no where close. the extra pipelines help the GPU to render the frames and the PCIe slot is only how the card sends the info to the mobo. there is no connection between the x16 of a PCIe slot to the maximum pipelines the mobo can support.

Btw, your friend just went down from ignorant to idiot... being misinformed is one thing, but not admiting he was wrong is just stupid:|

eventhough 16x PCI-e can only transmit 16bits per cycle, its still way faster than how much data GPU and memory can handle... especially memory which is much slower than GPU.

No way would the memory be able to read/write 4GB/sec of data that is supported by pci-e 16X.
