What is "mobile"?

I'm new to the forums, but I've been a loyal reader for years. I hope you guys could help me out a little. I've got this question that is racking my brain.

Can anyone give me their definition of mobile?

Is it a device? Is it a capability? Is wi-fi mobile, or do we need something like nationwide cellular for true mobile? A lot of companies are marketing the term "mobile," but none seem to really explain what it is.

If this topic isn't appropriate for the topic, please let me know what is and I will move it.

I believe most places mean smaller, non-PC devices whenever they talk about mobile. Whether you're getting to their site via cellular or wifi doesn't matter, the fact that it's a tablet or phone running iOS or Android on a 3.x"-10" screen is it.
