I heard a commercial for it on the radio this morning. Didn't listen too closely, but maybe it's another Bloussant or something. I dunno.

I'll take a wild stab in the dark and say that Metropolitan Life is changing the name to mLife so that they can be a truly groovy insurance company. Will probably mean their shares will go down. Hope not, I own some. :)

/me thinks it's another lame marketing attempt designed by some dolt who thinks that be keeping people in the dark about their product, we will somehow be more enchanted with it. I'm thinking of that stupid scooter thing that was supposed to "change the world," sorry bub, take your $8000 toy and ram it down the throat of the idiot who thought it was some huge idea, and then take that and ram it down mr "mlife"'s throat.

Getting tired of annoying advertising. Want to sell me a product? tell me why I should part with my hard earned cash. I'm not interested enough to play guessing games about what it is.

Watch the superbowl, it will be explained then. IMHO, It's a better ad campaign then the company's earlier one. I like the new campaign again I work there ;)

I think it is the new branding for AT&T wireless. Like how bell atlantic and GTE became Verizon.
mLife = mobile life

A joint venture between Met life and Miller high life...giving you an overpriced insurance you don't feel that bad about since they get you drunk before you sign it..?

Maybe ATT Wireless is finally rolling out 3G service which would provide the things they mention on the website. Hope so. If it is still plain cell service I will be disappointed.

Aaactually, the fact that we are even here discussing what mLife is is proof-positive that this leg of their ad campaign was quite successful. One of the most basic marketing concepts is the "teaser."
Come up with a brand and a logo. Display it prominently, but don't tell a soul what it is for awhile. The point is to generate buzz and prime the pump over at the rumor mill. People become interested based solely on the fact that they don't know what it is. "It's the greatest amusement park ever, and YOU can't come (especially Kyle and Stan)!"
Now that people are standing around the water cooler and in online forums wondering at what it is, now they can reveal just WHAT it is during the Superbore.

At which point, we'll realize it's something lame and it will flop.

But this part of their ad campain was effective :)

yup yup:

New York, February 1, 2002 -- MetLife today announced that it has filed suit against AT&T Wireless Services, Inc. to prevent the company from continuing to use its new "mlife" campaign. MetLife, in its papers filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, asserted that the AT&T Wireless "mlife" is confusingly similar and will have a dilutive effect on MetLife's established trademarks of long standing, thereby causing irreparable harm to the company.

MetLife also said it found disturbing that AT&T Wireless television and print advertisements promoting "mlife" had both a similar look and theme to MetLife's "have you met life today?"sm ad campaign. MetLife's ads address issues such as enhancing life significance in an emotional way as do the current "mlife" ads. In addition, AT&T Wireless is using "mlife" in lower case which also duplicates the "have you met life today?" ads.

"We are taking this action on behalf of our customers and employees because we believe strongly in protecting the value of our good name and widely recognized brand," said senior executive vice president Lisa M. Weber. "We have acted promptly and reasonably to resolve the critical issues raised. It is our hope this matter will be resolved swiftly and on the basis of fairness and best business practice."

MetLife is seeking preliminary and permanent relief prohibiting AT&T Wireless from continuing to use "mlife" advertising campaign. It is also seeking other appropriate relief.
