I have been on it for 4 years.

so if you aren't gay, aren't a drug user, then was it sex?

No, it was a tattoo.

If you decide to get a tattoo, make certain the shop you go to uses only new needles and new ink. The shop I went to tried to cut corners by sterilizing the needles and they reused the ink. The needles were not being properly sterilized.

The owner went to prison for 2 years. ( His sentence was 5 but he got out on good behavior.)

Too bad he had nothing I could sue him for.

If you don't mind sharing, how much money did you get for the damage caused?

None.

By the time I found out what had happened, he had long been shut down and was already out of prison. He had nothing to sue over. ( I tried but the legal fees and other cost made it prohibitive to even pursue the case.) You can't squeeze blood out of a turnip.

Wow.

I don't think I've heard of someone getting it via tattoo before.

What was their "sterilization" method? How long did they operate like this and how many people were able to trace their infection back to them?

They supposedly used alcohol to sterilize the needles. I was under the impression it was a new needle.

Because of privacy laws I am uncertain the actual number. I do know it was at least 2 other people from information obtained from the trial. There were also several people that contracted Hepatitis. It was the Hepatitis cases that lead to the investigation to begin with and lead to the closing of the shop.

soonerproud, that really sucks about that tattoo

thank you for sharing your knowledge about HIV and the treatments.
It seems that we're only shown the major scare stories about AIDS and HIV. The treatment that you're getting really sounds like a miracle in comparison to what the text books STILL say about HIV.

The text books are still correct. HIV even with treatment is as horrible as they mention. The treatments only delay the inevitable.

This is why I recommend that everyone gets tested at least once a year even if you think you are not at risk. I know several people who were married and monogamous who caught it from their partner because one was infected and had no clue. ( The infection happened before they met.) You also have to consider that spouses cheat.

If you have ever used drugs (You can be infected by sharing straws when snorting) you need to be tested. Got a tattoo. Get tested. Had a blood transfusion. Get tested. Ever had sex outside of marriage. ( Condoms do fail) Get tested.

If you have ever come in contact with bodily fluids you need to get tested also.

Soonerproud's story is awful, and I've heard of it before. A good friend of mine had 2 friends (sisters) who went to Jamaica for spring break; they decided to get tattoos while on break and both came back HIV infected from the experience. Their parents had to deal with their twin daughters both coming back HIV positive. Terrible experience. I appreciate Soonerproud coming into this thread and offering education information; it's admirable.

What if you have sex with a whore and your condom calls off, but you keep going?
