What is limiting the Zonet ZEW1642 to 135 Mbps?

I have a Netgear WNR834Bv2 (with a older router running Wireless G only, channel 1) with WPA/AES running N Mode only on Channel 11 @ 40mhz with a latest build of DD-WRT loaded. The speed status reported on the WNR834Bv2's GUI is 270 Mbps

Bought three of these PCI adapters to complete the setup of the Wireless N network:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16833130057

However, the Windows Network Connection Status reports a max of 135Mbps throughput (I know this isn't the actual throughput) regardless of signal quality. It was my assumption with a typical Wirless N setup, I would see something reported around 270+- Mbps.

Is the wireless adapters to blame?
Is it the internal connections or can different attennas make a difference?

Or will I have to buy new adapters like these

Thanks
