What is "Keyboard Locked Out" error?

Hey there, sorry if this is a stupid question (as I suspect) or has been answered before, but I did a search and couldn't find anything.

I bought a Soyo SY-P4x400 MB, and have installed everything. On power-up, it shows the Soyo Dragon screen, then starts going through system checks. It gets past IDE, processor, and RAM checks, then stops. I get the following error:

Keyboard error or keyboard not present.
Keyboard locked out. Unlock the key.

Plus I get other errors, only because I can't get into the BIOS to configure (like CPU settings incorrect)...because I can't type with my keyboard!.

It's a standard Microsoft keyboard, and it was working just before the MB change. Also, I tried another keyboard, and got the same error. Both keyboards work on another computer.

I've searched the mb manual, SOYO's website, and e-mailed them, but after a day of waiting, I'm getting a little impatient (it really sucks not to have my computer up and running). I'm hoping one of you kind people have a solution for me.

Some computer cases have a Key Lock that has a switch (or two) one of the switch leads goes to the KeyLock pins on the front-panel header on the mobo - the other (if present) may be in series with the reset switch. When in the 'locked' position , the first switch disconnects the Kbd, the second prevents the reset button from functioning. This is so you can walk away and pretty much keep people from messing with your confuser. The key lock used to lock the case cover in place as well, but I don't think many do that any more.
Perhaps you connected something (an LED lead) to the 'kbd lock' pins on the front-panel header by mistake. Or maybe 'someone' turned the key to the lock position.

First, thanks for responding. After doing some web searches, I had discovered that myself. However, there's something strange. The manual does show two pictures: an overall detail showing where to connect the power LED, reset/power pb's, etc. and ONE picture of 2 pins for a keylock, and that they should be pins 4 & 5, assuming the power LED pins are 1 & 3 on a certain section of the MB. However, on the overall picture of those pins, it only shows the power LED, and not the keylock pins. I have nothing connected to 4 & 5, so either the mb has something wrong with it, or some other pins are actually the keylock ones. I'm wondering, since the overall picture is obviously incomplete, perhaps it's wrong, also, and 4 & 5 are not the keylock pins, but some other ones are, like the reset switch, alarm horn, etc. I'll probably have to experiment with the pins to find out, unless someone here has the same board and can correct me.

One thought is that I maybe I need to jumper those two pins, in order to enable the keyboard (manual doesn't say if an open or closed connection is enabled or disabled), but it didn't come with extra jumpers, and I don't have any keylock connection on my case.

Kb enabled is always with the Kb Lock pins Open. You may need to clear your CMOS. It says in the Quick Ref for your mobo that you have to disconnect the ATX power connector before you do this. I suggest you should also unplug the PSU from the wall.

Yep, I've already tried that multiple times, both on the initial install, and thereafter, trying to troubleshoot. I've come to the conclusion I just must have a bad board. I found a spare jumper from one of my hard drives packages, and regardless if the keylock pins are jumpered or not (including wiping CMOS in-between) it always comes up with the same message. Plus, I'm told that the additional message of the keyboard not being plugged in is a separate one, so it's not seeing the keyboard being plugged in (i've tried 4 keyboards). Also, I get a floppy drive error I ignored before, but I still get it after double-checking all connections. Of course, it worked yesterday with my other mobo. I'm just going to put the older/slower one back in and take this one back. Thanks for the help!
