i resetted my comp because it had an error (winme, 256mb ram, p3, geforce, sblive value, 27gbhd 7200, intel mobo)

This would be better off in the General Hardware or Operating Systems forum.

But, to quote Hackers

"They're going after the kernel. It's the brain!"

The kernel is the BRAIN of your computer. People will have to correct me here but it is what interfaces your hardware to your software and basically controls all functions that relate to your computer. Not nice to have errors in there.

The Linux kernel is Linux. "Redhat Linux" for example is the linux kernel with Redhat's choice of software built around the kernel.

Kinda the same goes for Windows. KERNEL32 is Windows, and MS just throws in mainly garbage around it.
