What is it with stupid callers thinking they have a "clock drive" instead of a CDROM drive!?

This is the same thing that comes up ALL THE TIME. Why is it that people who shouldn't have a PC and still have one don't just understand things so simple like CDRom drives -NOT A CLOCK! :|

I'm trying to get this lady to open her CD rom drive in My Computer. She's like "I don't have one. I have an A: drive, a C: drive, and a Clock Drive."

...no doubt.

I get lots of people, seriously, who think they have a clock drive.

A clock drive? A fscking clock drive? I hope she's confused about the icon, not the physical drive.

hmm... if you look at it at a certain angle... Hey, it does look kinda like a clock. Of course, its a stretch.

No Kelvrick, not even close, the ONLY similarity a cd-rom drive icon and a clock have, are they are both ROUND!

Heheh, not a clock...

yeah, but when you put a CD in the drive and they understand what that is, there shouldn't be any "I don't have a CDRom drive, I only have a clock drive" type thing coming out at all...

you think thats bad, i had a guy call me up today and ask me why a SLOT 1 CELERON would not fit into his SS7 Motherboard, then when i explaind it to him(trying not to laugh histerically) he said ok then why wont my P III fit its a socket. I came so close to hanging up on him its not even funny, some people are so dense they should not be let near computers.

<< SS7 >>

!? :eek::Q

I know my fair share about PCs, but the whole slot-thing is the only thing that you can explain my ear off and I'll never understand. Who knows. I know my Celery is PPGA and that I have an adapter or something to make it fit into my BF6.

Probably like some of the people that call our helpdesk. Due to snow one day this last winter there were only 6 people from the whole I.T. Dept. that made it to work. My job as a Network Engineer keeps me far, FAR away from the helpdesk but on this day the 6 of us that made it in(only 1 normal helpdesk guy) all manned the phones. I got some calls that had me cracking my ass up. I swear I had 5 or 6 calls from people telling me that they were "resting their feet on the foot rest part of their computer under the desk and then the computer stopped working." There was one lady who called to tell me that "she couldn't bring up her AS/400 session because it was below freezing outside." I'm still trying to figure out what the hell that was supposed to matter.

The next week when everyone had made it back to work, those of us that had worked the helpdesk that day took the normal helpdesk staff to lunch. No way in hell could they pay me enough to do that every day. They would have to at least triple my salary to even get me to think about it.

SS7= Super socket 7, as in used by AMD K6-2's and K6-3's, will also function with older Socket 7 Pentiums. Looks similer to PPGA socket 370 but is NOT compatable :D

Just ask them to tell you the time using their "clock" - that should get them to wake up and smell the 21st century.

Someone should make a list of all the stupid questions helpdesks get, put it into an email and send it out to everyone they support. Then at the bottom, say if you ask ANY questions like the ones above you will be ineligible for future support until you take a basic training class on the PC.

High-technology in the hands of apes I tells ya!

I ain't no help desk. You have cable connection and not getting web or email or have a problem with a program we provide/edit, have a speed issue, etc., call me. Otherwise, go ask someone else your stupid questions.
