What is it with North Face and Asians?

Seems to be quite popular with the Asian crew. We have a North Face outlet nearby and it is quite popular with my Asian friends. Right next door is Under Armour and the same correlation can't be said. Thoughts? Is it a status symbol?:awe:

I noticed this since the late 90's. Being Asian myself, I steer away from TNF for this reason. It started with book bags, everyone had a TNF backpack... then the brand caught on and they started buying the jackets. Before this, it was Jansport back packs and Columbia jackets during the early-mid 90s.

I also notice lots of Asians are into A&F and Hollister these days.

edit: Also should mention that these brands were high quality until everyone and their mothers jumped on the wagon, then the quality went to shit I guess to meet demand.

Makes sense. So to stay ahead of the curve, what's the next big thing? Spyder?

I only wear stuff that's popular in the hood, 'cause I'm gangsta, only day offs... which is never.

Sounds like an American talking... ;)

Come to Canada (certain parts) and it's not North Face, it's Canada Goose. Practically every Asian, especially the "newer" people have Canada Goose parkas or whatever winter coats.

*shrug* Don't own any TNF merchandise. Samsonite backpack + laptop bag, Dockers + M Julian jackets.

I've noticed that people of most ethnic backgrounds like TNF. Out of those people, the percentage of Asians that own at least one piece of TNF appears to be greater than other demographics. Most modern Asians are brand-wh*** when it comes to something that is good quality and costs a bit of money (gucci, LV, etc.).

If you appeal to Asians you are fucking stoked as a brand. They will buy the shit out of it no matter what it costs.

While we're at it, what's the deal with Asian women and hair dye? They're all lightening their hair color. I can't remember the last time I saw an Asian girl with naturally black hair.

I never saw that as far as ethnicity, but definitely associate TNF gear with an image much more than function. When I was backpacking it was usually TNF clad folk that looked the most out of place on a trail.

I am a bit of a brand whore myself, so I can sympathize to an extent. (bought a Black Diamond headlamp with no research because it was the same as my first pack) However, as I got more serious with it I realized the logo stitched on the gear takes a back seat to how well the thing is made in the first place.

Columbia is about as boozhy as I can afford

I have to wear regular "cabelas" branded outerwear :(

North face is too high, even on clearance
