What is it with gray cats?

had a Russian Blue years ago who got himself caught in the eaves of the attic in a 3 family house, this cat was also obsessed with water and would play in the toilet,he'd swish the water in his dish onto the floor and I'd frequently find him sitting in the sink or tub with his head under the faucet hoping water would drip onto his head.

Flash forward 10 yrs...

new gray non-pedigreed kitten.....

I had to rip the boards covering the eaves in our storage area out yesterday morning to rescue her butt! She plays in the toliet, sits in the tub and sink and I'm going nutz as she's figured out how to get her water dispenser to fill up so she can swish water onto the floor.

I mean what is it with gray cats?, is it like some sort of cat secret society of weirdness?

I don't know, I don't have a grey kitty. I have noticed though, that a grey kitty has taken to sunning herself on our back porch. She has a flea collar on, and there's no food out there to attract her, so I'm not sure how or why she started coming around except I guess the afternoon sun on our back porch is the best.

we have a LARGE black warrior who lives on our porch.

It isnt gray cats it is a lot of cats. Some cats don't like water some like to play with it; especially younger cats. Most of my cats love it when I sprinkle water on them before I get in the shower. They enjoy licking it off their coats. I have an orange tabby likes to practically get in the shower. He will stick his paws and head in playing in the spray. Also cats prefer drinking from running water versus still dish water so will drink from a running water source when they can get it. It is natural since drinking from stagnent water is a NO NO and can get you killed in the wild if you don't boil it. Running water is far cleaner and safer to drink etc. Enjoy your cat's playfulness with water it is a good thing.

lol, she has a total fit if I attempt to take a bath without her assistance! Also brushing my teeeth has become a huge adventure as well. 🙂

Cat's suck, for the reasons you have already stated. I gave up on cats over 20 years ago. Dogs rule! You always know where they are, and I believe dogs are much more capable of caring about you. 🙂

I disagree, I've had the honor of living with several different cats who provided me with real companionship and comfort.Even this one, young as she is is already showing signs of being an excellent feline comforter and healer🙂

Why is it that in every feline thread, someone has to post about how much they hate cats? Some people are cat people, some dog. It's just personal preference.

Jean, it's ok to agree, we disagree.

Yeah, it's not just gray cats! I've had to rescue my black cat from behind my kitchen cabinets before, and he likes drinking from the toilet.

Ewwww! I hope he cleans up after himself! Lord knows how often he lifts his leg around here 😛

Our kitty loves water, crazy curious around a running tap or shower 😉 She's also an utterly wonderful companion, loves doing stuff or hanging about people FAR more than doing her own thang...

On the dog front, we'd love one someday, but living in town in a rental isn't that time 😉

Our Russian Blue is the same about toilets/running water and exploring the eaves up on the second floor. He also loves to "spill" (one second he's rubbing my leg, the next he's on his back, wanting his cheeks and nose rubbed); but he'll only let me do it for 20 minutes 😛.

What I don't understand is that if you guys are so annoyed by your cat going into the shower/sink/toilet then why the fvck don't you close the door?

e.g.
I can't take a shower because my cat bothers me - then close the damn door.

The entire family can be busy all day but it seems the very second I slip into a nice relaxing bath the conga line at the door starts up,lol, the cat freaks out if she misses bath time and either lets herself in or meows so loudly at the door that you can't relax till you let her in.

But then its just like spoiling your kid. You gotta be strict at times right?

Don't let her in 10 times and she won't meow the 11th time.

Or do you really want her to be in the shower when you are taking a shower 😕

Cats boil water in the wild?

I was coming into this thread to defend gray cats, but you're right. I have a black cat who does none of that, and a gray cat who does.

I have a grey tabby, and he is full of personality! He is very talkative, he'll sit in the window and chat with people passing by.
