What is it like in the dorms?

Well, what is life like in the dorms at college? I'm heading over to a university next semester.

I hated it the first day I was in my dorms. It took me around a month to really get comfortable here. I am settled now. The only thing about my dorm room that really sucks is that the sofa is crappy and there is no carpet. Other than that it's pretty good. Your's might be better. Have you gone and checked them out?

I'm going next fall as a transfer to western illinois. Do you have friends attending the school you are gonna go to? Go spend a weekend with em! I have gone multiple times and had a blast!

 

only bad thing is that getting alne time just to relax can be hard depending on your floor and/or roommate. Other than that, a wonderful time so far for me.

I love my dorm, it's so cool. The guys are great and I have one of the nicest rooms on campus. I live in the substance free dorm here by choice. The people aren't boring, like you would think. In fact, they're more interesting. We go launch projectile fruit from a water balloon launcher on top of an academic building on campus. We're estimating we can shoot about 200 yards from that elevation. Between that and other mischief we've done, it's enjoyable. One word of advice, if you don't think you need it, don't bring it. Two things you will need without a doubt are a decent pocket knife (I love my leatherman) and duct tape. Believe it or not, we're on our third roll of the stuff and we haven't finished a semester.

You'll have fun, just be civil with your room mate (I get along with mine great, for me it's like living with one of my best friends).

It should be a very unique and great time, but what's the college like? What I mean, is what are the dorm rooms like? At UM, living space is very limited, so your dorm room is no larger than 12 * 15, and my single was 8 * 12.......not so great. But most colleges seem to have great rooms to live in.

As for the lifestyle........as long as you can settle in and get along with some people, it will be a grand time. ^_^

i'm pretty good with people so i don't think that will be a problem with my roomate as long as things aren't too bad.
The dorms are rather small but that doesn't bother me. All I need is a desk, computer, and bed and (maybe) a couch. A beer or more could help also.


Do you guys / girls find yourself studying more in the library or somewhere else other than your room?

Dorms blow monkey balls. You will get stuck with someone you don't like, you won't be able to sleep because of the large amount of noise adn you will gain excess amounts of fat deposits because of the food.

You better hope that you're not sharing bathrooms (Men/Women) with people on your floor. It is the most disgusting sh!t you will ever experience. When I lived in the dorms at SJSU, some people were just fu*king filthy. Sh!t here, sh!t there...MAN SH!T freaken everywhere. I feel much sympathy for the guy that cleaned it up....One time one of the urinals pipes didn't work and when someone flushed it with the handle it shot like 10 feet of water towards the wall...it was some crazy sh!t. OH yeah..you WON'T get any studying done. The only safe haven for studying is only the LIBRARY. Go to the silent floors and you will hear absolutely NOTHING. The only annoying thing is when poeple cough or sneeze a lot. Even that gets on my nerves!

You have to live with someone else. That is enough to make me not like it. If I didn't have a good roommate I would not be living on campus. I hate living with other people. The thing I find most annoying is my suitemates like to have their music blasting at 2-6AM with the subwoofer turned all the way up. :frown:

Join a frat. Best decision (socially) of my college career. My own room (no annoying roommate; for that matter, no roommate at all!), it's cheaper than in the dorms, we have a cook so we always have leftovers (no trudging down to the snack bar at 2:30 in the morning), ENFORCEABLE study conditions...oh, yeah, and then there's the whole FRATERNITY aspect, too.

Oh man... the dorms. You'll never get any work done. You'll be up past midnight every night. Your computer will be filled with dust in about two months. If it is cold out and you are on the upper floors, it will be as hot as summer in there, and with the dust in your computer, it will over heat when your fans stop turning. Ethernet is great at most schools though.

My doorm is cool we haqve the Biggest Quad on campus. we are all juniors ad live on the bottom of a freshman dorm. its cool cause our hall has 3 rooms on it all upper classmen. we have our own bathroom and shower. NO RA's and we have a fireplace. <-- excelent when gettin with the lady friends
