What is HDD S.M.A.R.T. capabilty?

SMART is a bios setting for letting you know if your hdd is getting ready to go bad. I leave mine on, I'd assume that it might give a very, very slight performance hit on initial bootup, but thats about it.
 
Snidy, if your HD supports SMART, you should see a message upon bootup stating SMART supported, but disabled, or SMART supported and enabled... I read that it does carry with it a slight performance hit... I used to have it enabled, but now I don't. Don't really notice the difference in performance either way...
