Hi,

I know everyone here has great experiences with Antec and their PSUs. What I don't understand is why I have units that fail or cause my system to crash sooo much??

I have had 3 different Antec units in 3 different computers(totally different builds) have issues all the time. I know how to build computers and that is not the issue.

All the Antecs were TruePower 2.0 350 - 450 versions. I just found this link:
Antec Problems

So why do people here keep on supporting Antec? I don't understand it. Trust me, I have gone through and replaced every part of a system to try and identify the issue and it came down to the ANtec.

Problems are ranging from computer crashing/hanging to not turning on the computer. 3 different ones in 2 years.

So, who else supplies a good one? Who is number 2??? I would prefer that I think.

Thanx

From what I've read, the TruePower 2.0 line was where they had most of the problems. Their other lines now are considered pretty good.

Other good PSU companies include Corsair, Seasonic and PC Power & Cooling. For lower-end, but still reliable PSUs, I think people like Sparkle and the FSP group.

Those truepowers were notorious for bad capacitors. RMA that piece of junk, and with some luck you'll get a similar wattage earthwatts unit.

Hard to ever be 100% sure. I own two of the Antec TruePower units (450) and never had any issues. I purchased them after reading numerous favorable reviews at the time. To me, a critical point of consideration is who provides the best RMA/Customer support, so that if you get a bad product you can switch it out without much delay and annoyance. I started a thread in this same forum category titled "Best Customer/Tech support for major components?" but so far there's not much activity. Hopefully the Anandtech community can help build a fairly comprehensive list of the best companies to buy from in this regard.

Found this article about Seasonic, here's a quote: "Seasonic can be found providing OEM services on various model lines for Antec, Corsair, PC Power and Cooling, and of course under their own Seasonic brand."

TP Trio version A2 should work well if you don't use the molex fan controller. Earthwatts are even better due to the KISS design. All are based on the same core Seasonic topology. BTW, these units emit above average RF noise so nearby TVs will see some interference between channel 2 and 6.

I've had good luck with Antec PSUs, but I don't consider them a top-line PSU company. I do like their cases; my current favorite is my Solo. I got a SeaSonic S12-430 to put in my Antec case.

I've had the True Power 480W for 3 years, and I've used the True Power Trio 650W (made by Seasonic) for the past year.

Both work perfectly in my 2 desktops.

And I would strongly recommend getting the PSU's about at least 30% more powerful that any PSU calculators might indicate.

What kills them prematurely is the fact that they work all the time at 80 - 90% of their capacity.

Where did you read this?

Everything I've read has said that your average system rarely if ever pulls more than 250W from the wall.

Yup...many rigs idle under 100 with full load approaching 200. A quality 380 is good enough for many PC users.

Many of the current Antec PSUs are OEMed by Seasonic and are good PSUs. Only problem I've had with the low end ones (SU and EA series) is that the insulator sheets come loose quite often due to sloppy gluing combined with exposure to cold. One I got in my last batch had two of the sheets rattling around in there - had to go out and get some more high-temp goop to stick them back in with.

Antec SmartPower 2.0 300 was treating my pc very well for a year now I upgraded to SmartPower 500..no issue for 5 months now with ATI X1950 Pro card.
I don't know the difference between True and Smart Power 2.0

So why are you assuming everybody here loves or has had great experiences with the Antec brand?

Also why did you not post that in the power supply forum? instead of here?

You are assuming way too much in your post!!
Most of the Antec model PSU`s after the True power line of PSU`s are good PSU`s!!
Especially the newer Seasonic built Antec PSU`s!!

Where do myou get that Antec is the #1 PSU ?
There is no sucj thing as the absolute best PSU!!
There arer many many real good brands!!

Do you know how yo use google to answer your questions?

Peace!
