I remember when this place had motherboard roundups. I'm glad that they're covering mechanical keyboards, but surely we can cover something regularly like video card releases. I'm happy when there's an in depth at launch date. However, I'd sure like to see reviews on different models/makes of video cards/power supplies/motherboards once again. There's just not a steady release of new products like there used to be. I don't want to have to go to other sites just to get hardware reviews.

It's inevitable the way AT has been going since Anand left for greener pastures. As this site moves away from what attracted PC enthusiasts here to begin with., the PC enthusiasts will also find other places to go. The good news is there are sites like Guru3d who do excellent GPU reviews and also have an active forum.

Heck, even product flame wars are hard to find these days around here.

Oh, I know (and have bookmarked) those other sites. I also know how over moderated our forums have become. I have been an admin on another site and I know full well how an overly moderated board can kill it off. And you're right, this place has moved away from pc hardware. You can tell when those left on this site will ask you, "What is a desktop?"

I understand smacking down racists or obvious trolls, but it's gotten to the point where you can't interact like normal people would in real life. It's like we're all supposed to act like robots and that is not fun. I enjoy talking about pc hardware. Nowadays, I'm afraid to say something wrong and get an infraction. Keep between the lines. Single file. No talking! The mods have bought in to it. They'll claim that their tactics are necessary to cleaning up the place. Well, with less and less people there to interact with the place dies a little bit more each day.

Now, rollo or wreckage, those I don't miss. We don't need paid trolls ruining discussion. But what about the rest of us peeps that would consider Intel/AMD or ATI/Nividia? You can't use the term "fanboy" even when it's appropriate. This place is no longer the place for people that love hardware. You can like hardware, just not love it. LOL. That is over the line, mister! Anyone know what happened to idontcare?

I do think that, in order to keep what we still have, the mods should allow a little more lattitude. Somebody makes an ugly remark about somebody who likes the wrong video card or doesn't like the popular candidate? Who cares, really. I think Trolls will get attacked enough by other members to know they aren't wanted. I am reminded of the times I run into necro threads that have been revived. I see content in posts from years ago that it seems like no one would get away with now.

For sure, its like we are posting a nazi germany during WW2 with the SS watching us now. At least it feels that way alot of the time, and this will drive people away.

Yep... I get far less infractions now then I did a year ago. And it's not because I play nicer with my forum mates. I'm just not around enough to read a post that makes me respond with "that has got to be one of the most retarded comments I've ever heard on this forum, and perhaps my entire life... anywhere"

I'm also not totally sure why I'm still here. A lot of intangibles and just habit I guess, but I also have an extreme distaste for the heavy handed moderation. It doesn't seem to be very effective against smart trolls either who can still do their thing within the forum rules knowing the moderation staff will only look at the letter of law instead of the intent behind it.

I imagine infractions will be coming to all of these posts since we're off topic and probably breaking a bunch of rules even breaching the subject, but I dunno, maybe there's a small chance that if enough people comment here it will be heard somewhere. I think there are a lot of people, maybe even the majority of regulars, who feel similarly, but don't speak out (like I haven't spoken out until now) because the system is designed to make speaking out seem so futile.

It's at the point where I'm actually hoping some mod will flat out ban me for making this post, since that would give me all the impetus I need to stop visiting this forum for good.

I see three infractions in this post. Have no fear. The thought police is on it's way!

The moderation isn't that bad and from what I've seen it's mostly cleaning out personal attacks or pretty blatant troll posts.

One of the best forums I've ever seen was also one of the most heavily moderated, which was the Elitist Jerks forums which were dedicated to WoW theorycrafting. They moderated harshly (asking simple questions that could easily be looked up was good enough for a ban) but it kept the threads on topic and highly informative.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone here get an infraction for posting something that is highly insightful or informative. It's only when it devolves into personal attacks that people get into trouble. Sure that lets a lot of low effort posters make some trollish posts, but it's not too hard to point out why those posts are wrong and eventually most people realize that some people really aren't worth paying attention to. Having less moderation just means that threads get derailed and turn into poo-slinging contests.

+1 to the above posts. I hardly ever post here anymore because of the over moderation.
