http://www.newegg.com/Product/...A=0&Description=gtx280

Seems like most of the gtx 280 cards have gone up overnight to their original prices before Nvidia's pricecuts (649 - 700 USD).

Most ATI's 4870's also went up to 305 - 310 USD.

What the hell???!!!! Anyone has any idea WHY??

Edit: GTX260 went up as well. 379.99 USD being the most common price.

Edit #2: Prices are stabilizing once again to what they were with the pricecuts. Seems like it was a database error of some sort.

My opinion is that it's last-minute gouging to take advantage of the folks who don't know better. I.E. that the HD4870X2 is coming out soon and the prices on the HD4870 and HD4850 will drop, so many folks that might have bought NVidia will buy ATI...er...AMD.

I saw the price raise too and thought it was a load of BS.

Its pretty common for parts to revert to original MSRP once they go EOL and Newegg doesn't expect to get more stock. Its surprising in this case though that they still have stock on some parts that have gone up. Its also surprising because its only Aug. 1st which is a bit early for GT200 to be going OOS/EOL. Still about 4 weeks before GT200b is expected to launch.

Probably this. Someone hot linked the product(s) or wrote a script to pound/DoS newegg and their auto-gouger went nuts. Could be part of some scam to offload the cards on ebay.

Pricewatch shows the 280 as coming down today, 4870 and a few others are listed as up though.

This is what pisses me off about Newegg. Some people say there's an auto-adjusting mechanism in place. I call shens. They have a CFO or someone there who plays this like the stock market. I'm 100% convinced it's a personal decision and not an auto adjusting thing.

The problem is, they're so big now that they can influence the market. You know damn well ZZF, Tigerdirect, and others are looking at these prices deciding if they should follow suit.

I love Newegg as we all do, but this crap turns me off. If they had a true competitor, I'd never buy from them again..

They've jacked up 4850's and 4870's too. It's a powertrip, not EOL.

I wish there was an Emotion thingy for a MIDDLE FINGER. You deserve one NewEgg!!! :|

What did they do, decide they needed higher margins on the cards and raise the prices back up to MSRP? Hopefully people are looking at other sites and won't buy at these prices.

Not sure what you guys are talking about... I just went to newegg.com and saw the same pricing I have all week. BFG GTX280 OC edition is $429.99 after rebate and discount, XFX GTX 280 is 449.99... all other prices seem about the same as well... Radeon HD4870's for like $284.99..

Maybe someone on the website end made a boo-boo and fixed it.

Hey, that's me! I got mine for $199.99 after rebate to be exact. :) I installed it yesterday morning. I was worried it would be too long for my case (rosewill 5605) but it *just* fit. Thank goodness the power connectors were on the side, not the back, or I would have been SOL. So far so good, no temp issues, and I've got good cooling in the case. Crysis is looking smooooth as glass. One happy camper here. :)

Then don't order from Newegg. I'm glad that Newegg never got around to making a Canadian site, after all the crap I've been hearing.

Actually, Newegg is coming to Canada. www.newegg.ca ? 2nd, they by far have the best customer service I have ever dealt with. Theyll give you s $25 credit if you sneeze at them. Most Canadians ive conversed with cant wait for it.

There are plenty of other places to buy hardware besides newegg. Vendors I usually toggle back and forth to are
Newegg, ZZF, Mwave, Tiger Direct, and for B&M stores I use MicroCenter (about a 35 minute ride for me).

They reset prices to what they had them at for the most part. Next time you tour the Egg AT, ask about the price hiking..

And yes Keys, there are several very good choices. Overall it's hard to be the Egg, but I'd like to smack whom/whatever's responsible for the hikes, even if temporary.
