<< Ecko is a freaking motorcycle/BMX threads company. >>

Wrong. Ecko was started by a graffiti artist and is mostly worn by the Hip-Hop community not BMXers. Or are you referrring to a different Ecko?

Ecko that one GURU?

I thought FUBU was Fu***n Bu***sh*t
Now I get it though. Thanks guys!!
You guys are cracking me up ;)

I also don't like Tommy. Do they think we are a free walking bilboard
for them? It's bad enough that their clothes are super expensive (No,
I don't have any), you still have to advertise for them.
Sometimes I get dizzy just looking at the huge logo on the back of
someone sweatshirt or T-Shirt. It's kinda like proclaiming I'm own by TOMMY

Ecko and Roccawear are both nice imho. A lot of my friends wore/wear FuBu, but the XXXXXL football jersey look never appealed to me.

MaxFPS. I checked out you link.

I would say that Ecko is imitating Ecko, but the guy's last name is Ecko so I can't say really get away with that. ;)

So in response:

<< Ecko was started by a graffiti artist and is mostly worn by the Hip-Hop community not BMXers. >>

WRONG.

It's a different Ecko.

The original Ecko started out before this Marc Ecko guy was even born. It was originally named Echo. When the company got real big when wearing leathers was a fashion in the early 80s and companies like Answer and AXO started seeing mainstream dollar signs, they were threated by another company name Echo that had NOTHING to do with clothing, just had the same name. They were forced to change their name to Ecko. This was in the late 80s.

Wasn't FUBU started because Hilfiger said if he knew black people were going to wear his clothes he would've never made them? Thats why its For Us By Us.

For Us By Us

I believe Hilfiger is a racist, but that rumor about the Oprah show he appeared on is false.

My favorite is MUDD jeans, now there is a genius advertising campaign.

I love to see fools pay $40 for a fvcking FUBU of Tommy T-shirt.

I love it even more when I see some PWT biker lady selling shirts with the same logo's out of the back of her station wagon for 3 for $20, in the parking lot of the same mall nonetheless. Now that's America for you.

Tommy stuff is only expensive cause of the label, but I think stuff like Structure, Ecko, and Polo is pretty well made (as in, wearable for a longass time).

oh yea, i think ecko is definately not meant to be black-targeted clothing considering the creator is white heh.

jonnyGURU,
Ahhh...OK I knew something was missing. Yeah you're right about Marc having to change his company's name from Echo to Ecko. I think I still have one of Marc's t-shirts back when it was Echo. I was totally unaware of the other Ecko that you mentioned though. Cool...

<< yeah...but you will never get complimented on a "nice kmart shirt" >>

au contraire, my closed-minded friend. i've gotten compliments on a $15 no-name shirt that i bought at marshall's... who gives a shit where it came from or whose name is on it.

What is karl kani to you guys? How about jncos? Anyways, i think tommy hillfiger is a genius, because he knows what is gonna sell. Stuff that black people wear sells and its a reality. Other kids will wear it if the black kids wear it. I read it in an article in the New Yorker for my english class. Pretty funny actually. (I have one tommy shirt, I cost me $12. Sue me)

I'll stick to my $24 CK jeans from Sam's club :)

That's the closest that I'll get to Big Name fashion.

I can go to JC Penny and get 4 pairs of dress slacks, 5 button up shirts, and a t-shirt or two for under $175.

That would barely cover one or two outfits from ACF, or Tommy.

It's dumb if you ask me.

There is no way to say this without sounding stereotypical but most people I see or know that wear Karl Kani are black. They make some really nice shirts though (unlike Tommy there aren't advertisements everywhere), but it's mad expensive. Most people I see wearing jnco are Asians.

Those aren't stereotypes because they're TRUE. Certain race prefers a particular brand over another ... it's simple as that.

I wear 17 dollar Wal-Mart Wrangler Jeans 24/7/365 does that mean I am a red-neck?

The worst clothing mistake I ever made was flushing US$70 on a pair of Guess jeans. They were the worst fitting POS jeans you can imagine. The salesgirl said they looked good so I bought them. Wore em once or twice then retired them. Learned my lesson. (That was 10 years ago)

Name brands are suck!

I'd rather look like a geek in a Microsoft tee-shirt than a sheep in a Tommy tee-shirt. Not that I wear tech t's around in public, but the fact is, paying $40 for tee-shirt is just stupidity for the insecure.

I will not wear shirts with logos even if they are small. I had a revelation a few years ago at the mall when I was walking behind a group of girls. A guy is walking towards us, and turns around and walks the other way (like he forgot something). When he turned around, the girls could see the logo on the back of the shirt and then got all excited about "ooh, cool shirt on that guy". Funny, it wasn't cool until they could see what brand it was.

I'm kind of surprised at how many people I know will say they don't discriminate, they don't judge people, etc., and not see anything hypocritical about behaving that way. Sure, appearance matters, but how much someone spends on their clothes doesn't equal "appearance" in my book.

The same people who would scream bloody murder about being "ripped off" by a company for any of a million reasons willingly buy clothes designed to have a very short lifespan (so no one wants to be seen in last year's style from <fill in the brand> ) and don't feel ripped off. Then next year they are back for more. The logos get bigger and bigger until you are paying top-of-the-line prices to be a walking billboard.

I feel bad for people who feel they have to play this game to get the opposite sex interested in them. Doesn't make sense to go out of your way to attract superficial people.

Kranky I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking like that. The superficiality in this world is really getting on my nerves.
