What is faster a Celeron-733 or P3-600 ?

Hi, I wanted to upgrade my cousins computer. I can either get him a celeron 733 at buy.com for $107 or give him my P3-600 and have him give me $100 so I can use that towards a newer processor for me. Personally I dont care either way, I just want him to have whatever is faster.

Also, he has a Abit-BX6, the orignal bx board. I checked the voltages it will go below 2.0v, but will the celerons need a slocket card? I think his is slot 1.

Thanx!

At default clocks speeds given the same motherboard the P3-600 should be 10-15% faster than the Celeron 2 733 I'd guess. If you check Anandtech's Celeron 2 700 review it pits it up against alot of other chips in alot of situations overclocked and stock clock, it's 33mhz slower than the 733 but should give you a good gauge to go by.

Your 600e is a hell of a lot faster than the 733. I have a BX6.2 with a 600e. I have tried a 700 celeronII at 700 and 950. It wasn't stable at 950, and at 700 it was a dog, IMHO, I'd guess about like a PIII 500.

You'd need a slocket as the Cel II's are all fcpga. The 600e's value is way over $100. Maybe sell it for $150 and have him run 6 x 112 for 680, his pc100 should do that. The bh6 needs an updated bios.

If a $100 is the budget limit, keep your 600 unless you feel generous. Like the guy said, your 600 could do 800, a 733 PIII could do 933.

Also, you have to count in the bus speeds. The celeron runs at 66mhz while the P3 runs at 100 so the P3 will be overall faster even if the celeron is fast(which it isn't)
