I currently have a Gainward Geforce4 4800SE 128MB 8x video card. The card went bad, so have to replace it and want something about the same speed or a tad faster, but have a price cap of about $200. So I want to know which current cards would be the same speed?

A RADEON 9600Pro/9600XT (~$150/180, respectively) would be a bit faster, but not by a huge amount. It also has DX9 support and much better AA/AF performance.

However, the better buy right now at $200 is a GeForceFX5900 Non-Ultra card, which will be a big step up in performance. They're priced from about $200-230, depending on model and where you buy. In a similar bracket (slightly more expensive, but better performance, especially in DX9) is the RADEON 9800Non-Pro, if you can find it. The 9800NP also should overclock up to 9800Pro speeds very easily.

FX5600 flip chip ultra which be the closest equiv. The FX5600 ultra will be a bit slower in games with AA/AF off, and will be a bit faster in games with AA/AF on. I used to own both cards, and 3DMark2001SE scores were very close, within 500-1000pts.

Now if you're planning to spend around $200, the best bet is between a 5900nu or a Radeon 9700pro/9800np.

Agreed. Newegg has a 5900nu for right at $200 with free shipping. Damn good price/performance point there.

Why don't you RMA that Gainward card? It might still be under warranty and from what I hear Gainward has one of the best support in the business.

Or 9700Pro if you find it. Both much better than your actual Ti.

the ti4800se is actually slower than the ti4200, so if you are willing to stick with the same quality card buy a ti4200. those cards are around 130$. but if you wanna spend 200$ get the gfx5900 128meg card, it will bring you quite a improvement. well worth the xtra 70$ over the g4ti4200.

Uh, no....

ti4800se is an AGP 8x version of the ti4400. It is clocked at 275/550 (core/mem) and the ti4200 is clocked at about 250/500.

This is one rare case where the SE label does not mean the card totally sucks.
