What is EFNET?

Hey guys, what is efnet? I have seen this in the description part of mp3s: Team #RNS at EFNET.
Also, is mIRC good for mp3s and is it hard to learn?
Any security problems in that software that I should be aware of? thanks!

efnet is an IRC server

mIRC is used to access IRC. It's not like Morpheus or Audio Galaxy.

#RNS would be a channel on IRC. Efnet is a network on IRC like Undernet and DALnet.

EFNET is a network of IRC servers. My personal favourite. 🙂

Thanks for the quick replies (as is expected from AT 🙂). How do I access this EFNET server. I am sorry, I never tried this chatroom based stuff or whatever it is. I assume I have to download mIRC to get to EFNET?

mIRC is not necessary, but an IRC client is. www.efnet.org has a list of servers as does irchelp.org.

Yes, or you could use Trillian.

I must be an idiot or something... I am trying out trillian, I click join channel, typed #RNS or #exiles, and nothing happens. Does it matter what server I am using? I picked the closest to me which is New York, New York (City). hmm... makes no sense..
EDIT: I must not be connecting to any of the servers. It says ****Connecting to irc.umich.edu failed.

Check irchelp.org. They have auto-updating server list for EFnet. Thats kind of wierd that you didnt get any errors though...

Interesting... I think I got on some server on EFNET (used mIRC.. trillian is wierd) and #rns is invite only. Sigh.. I guess I can't get in there. #mp3 is invite only as well. So much for getting mp3's on IRC. I know there are probably other channels but it is much easier to use morpheus or something like that.

Its ok, IRC isnt there to share files. Its just one of the many features.
