what is ecc dimm?

error checking and correcting dimm (dual inline memory module?)
it has an extra bit for each byte, so it can check and correct errors. amd socket 940 requires it, some xeon boards also do. comes with a slight reduction in performance, also the ram is a bit more expensive.
