What is Dust In The Wind about?

:music:

I close my eyes, only for a moment, and the moment's gone
All my dreams, pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind, all they are is dust in the wind
Same old song, just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do, crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see

Dust in the wind, All we are is dust in the wind

Don't hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away, all your money won't another minute buy

Dust in the wind, All we are is dust in the wind

:music:

When he says dust in the wind I think of a body being burned after death like it's done in India. Lines 4 and 5 of what I posted though confuse me.

Anyone care to tell me what they think it means?

By the way, I LOVE this song. I think it's right up there with stairway to heaven and high hopes.

it's fun to play. [travis picking]

and the song is about life. it's best not to read into these kinds of things. take it at face value and apply it to your life as you see fit.

I'll take your word for it, but can I ask why?

i just didn't want you to become like those idiots on songmeanings.net who conjure up some huge prolific story about the song's meaning, done line by line. 😉

haha, I just read some of their comments

those guys got really deep into it

it makes you think about life from another point of view :Q

It's just about the nature of life and the impermanence of everything that mankind does. Pretty standard 1960's kind of song.

In the Judeo-Christian worldview, the phrase, "...for dust thou art and unto dust thou shalt return..." is a pretty commonly-known one.

Pardon me; my mistake, or rather Sigmund Freud's!

Cocaine is a powerful drug and Freud must have been the Rick James of his day. LOL

In the grand scheme of things.. we're insignificant. The earth will spin along without us someday.... barely changed.

Do you realize
That you have the most beautiful face?
Do you realize
We're floating in space?
Do you realize
That happiness makes you cry?

Do you realize
That everyone you know someday will die?
And instead of saying all of your good-byes
Let them know you realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Do you realize?

Do you realize?
