Is dumping the clutch releasing the pedal? I read that this is bad. Why is it bad, in normal shifting you release the clutch pedal pretty fast anyway, why is dumping it worse then regular clutch pedal release?

Dumping the clutch=revving it up, letting clutch out quickly, barking the tires and thinking you're cool.

Imagine revving the engine up to say, 3000-4000rpm and letting go of the clutch suddenly. That's dumping the clutch. That's bad.
It might be just usage. However, when I first got my truck, I left an appartment complex at 2am by redlining it and "dumping the clutch" in 4-high. It left four 8-inch strips through the parking lot.

Ok, would this be considered dumping the clutch, normal upshifting, from like 3rd to 4th at around 3000 rpm and releasing the clutch really fast?

No, that isn't bad. If you didn't let it out fast, it would be riding the clutch and that is bad too.
No, that's just normal shifting. If you do so without letting up off the gas, you're "speed shifting" and if you shift without using the clutch, you're "power shifting".
I keep hearing conflicting shifting advice. Some say let go of the clutch pedal slowly while upshifting and others say let go of it fast, what to do for less wear?

That's what happens when you add a pissed off asshole, a truck that had engine/transmission rebuilt the week before, a huge fight with significant other, and just a pinch of alcohol.
As long as you're shifting at the proper RMP and you're pushing the gas pedal properly, it doesn't matter how quickly or slowly you do it. Just don't touch the clutch unless you're shifting. Riding the clutch and glazing the clutch plate is a bad thing, mkay?

There wasn't enough room, Kalvin00. I wasn't concerned about staying there, either. The place usually had Sherriff driving through every night on regular intervals. Low-income-housing isn't the best place to hang out.
Have you ever seen how a transmission works? It's pretty cool to read and pretty cool to understand exactly what's going on when you're in the car actually working it.

I thought shifting without lifting your gas foot was "power shifting"....shifting without the clutch is just called clutchless shifting, which is what the big rig drivers do in every gear except first. Granted, it's much easier without syncros.
The only gear in which you should slowly release the clutch is first. In the other gears, fast=good.
Just, whatever you do, don't rev the engine up to 8000 RPM and let out the clutch slowly (slipping the clutch).....that will burn it out faster than anything.

IF you guys are concerned about dropping the clutch too fast while upshifting/downshifting, then rev match.
Miri - What he said. Speed x requires RPM y in gear 3; when you shift to 4'th gear, the same speed requires lower RPM. If you know what that lower RPM is, you can slide your foot off the clutch and let it pop out on it's own and you'll be doing 0 damage to any components. If you're even a little off though, be ready for some serious jerking which causes clutch wear and puts undue stress on the drivetrain.
It took me a while to learn rev matching (I'm still working on it two years later), but it's well worth it. You can do essentially any shiting maneuver (a la downshifting, etc.) and not cause any wear on you clutch at all. I suppose that does except "dumping the clutch", but when you rev match for a while, you'll know not to do it anyway.
