What is difference between "E" and non "E"

I am looking into purchasing a new CPU for my system.
I noticed on the site that there is nomenclature of 750E and 750 (non E).
What is the difference between these nomenclatures? Which would be better to place in a machine that does on line gaming?

Current system:
MSI 6309 MoBo
Cel 566 (OC'd 770)
128meg PC100 Ram
GeForce 256 (innovision)
WD and Fujitsu HD 7200RPM
SoundBlaster Live! Value

I am also looking to upgrade video and RAM. These I am researching on other Topic areas in this community

The "E" refers to Pentium III CPU's that have the Enhanced cache, which is to say they use the Coppermine core. The highest speed of Pentium III that did NOT have the "E" was the Katmai-core P3-600. At that time, adding the E was necessary to help tell the P3-600 from the P3-600E (and the P3-600B and P3-600EB). The P3-750 is in fact a 750E, whether the site remembers to add the E or not. The "EB" models run at a 133MHz front-side bus, by the way, while the E models run at 100MHz FSB.

Considering that a Celeron II 950MHz is somewhat less money, you might think about getting one of them instead. Clock-for-clock it's not as fast as a P3, but it appears to be less than half the cost right now and at 950MHz it should be at a similar or higher performance level compared to the P3 750. You can save the extra money toward a faster video card. 😀 Happy upgrading!

I have to dissent. If you are OK with overclocking (and your post suggests you are) then a PIII 750 can be considered a fairly good bet for 1050 Mhz. the celeron at 950 is damn near maxed out as it is. The difference between them is maybe $20-30 max? I'm using a celeron 566@850 and happy with it, but if its an upgrade, go for the PIII.
