Michigan Wolverines invented it. Best played at an alternated rhythm closely related to the Garfield theme song but missing the last note.

before being fully domesticated, cows were voracious human predators. we outfitted them with cowbells to subvert their stealthy nature and save human lives. they have now since been "tamed" and its more of a traditional thing than anything else.
