what is cnr?

im looking at mb and i see that it has 1 cnr..what exactly is it? thanks for the info in advance

It's usually for software network and winmodems, not really worth much.

Communications and Network riser. You put the line interface card for the onboard modem unit there. Worthless? Nah. You get a well working modem for about an extra $10 from it - which then is on a fast chipset connection, not hogging the slow PCI bus.

"Software network" doesn't exist anyhow. If a CNR card does networking, then it just contains the PHYsical interface chip to a network MAC hardware unit that is already contained in the chipset.
