What is causing the freezing?

I'm bewildered. I came home today and used the comp for 7 hours (gaming, movies, browsing, etc.). Then I started typing something in Word, and it hard-froze. It seems like these freezes started after I installed the Audigy 2, but the weird thing is it only seems to freeze in Word.

Another thing is that the ethernet light on my mobo remained blinking and the HD still made access noises even after the freeze. It was just the keyboard/mouse that would not respond.

What could be going on here?
