Just for reference, I use BEL and EOT all the time. EOT is used as an escape in my semi-proprietary data files, and BEL is fun to spit out of a console because it beeps the PC speaker.

The ~ key is the one that many games (Quake series, Unreal series, many more) use to open the console in which you can type commands/change settings other than what exists in menus, usually.
