what is { called?

According to the Windows Vista character map, they're called the left and right curly brackets.

left curly bracket, right curly bracket, left curly bracket, right curly bracket, left curly bracket, right curly bracket, left curly bracket, right curly bracket

Ventrilo spammer Microsoft Sam agrees that they are curly brackets.

Curly brackets or braces... usually curly brackets.

Just for future reference (in case you aren't aware) jigaboo is a racial slur against blacks.

"braces" and "curly brackets" both work. For me, they denote an algebraic set. Thus { } is the empty set. Sigh, my name is MovingTarget and I am a math nerd.
