If it doesn't, is it still a good burner or should I spend the extra $50 to get the plexor or TDK?

dude, u could easily find that out by searching the web for "what is burn-proof?" sometimes people in this forum amaze me with their apathetic nature of not going to www.google.com or any other search engine and finding the answer themselves. geezus. go find it.

And YOU are one sorry excuse for a Human Being. Its not like I asked you to fly to my house and fix my computer. It amazes me how some people find the stupidest things to complain about. This is a HELP forum, therefore, I asked for help. Whether I search the web or ask someone who knows on a forum, what F*cking difference does it make. I hope you aren't this critical and negative to everyone in your circle of friends, that is if you even have any.

"Burn-Proof" is a technology developed by Sanyo which eliminates the problem of buffer underruns. Buffer underrun occur when your cd writer is writing faster than your cd reader can read data from the cd. "Burn-Proof" basically allows the cd writer to stop and wait for the reader to catch up and then continue writing again.
Personally, I think "burn-proof" is a must with IDE drives. That way you can burn at 12-16x and still run as many applications as you normally would without having to worry about messing up your cd.
In my experience, the yamaha 16x10x40 is a good writer without the burnproof technology (due to the 8 meg buffer). However, it sucks big time as a reader. Plextor drives are not only great writers, but in my opinion, the best readers out there.
So, in conclusion, go buy yourself a plextor, you won't regret it.

I had the Yamaha 16x10x40x and it does not have burn proof, I took it back and got the TDK 12x10x32x with burnproof, they now have the 16x10x40x out and I must say the swap was well worth it, no coasters as of yet. Gota love that burnproof.

trust me, you want to stay away from the yamaha.......i just returned mine. I burned one CD and that was the end of the thing....never worked again. I assumed it was me or some incompatibility but finally put it in a stock HP and it still didn't work. I have a plex now. TDK is also a good choice.

and cooltech, go f_ck yourself....if the guy can't ask for advice at a hardware forum then what the hell is the point of the forum? Moron....i'd like to meet people like you face to face...guarantee you'd shut up.

Thanks so much for the info guys! I will take your advice and get either the TDK or Plexor. I saw the new TDK for $229 at Fry's Electronics tonight, so come payday, I might just get it. I appreciate the replies and thanks for the support soldat. Thanks for taking the time to explain "burn proof" banner11. :)

Hey Pale,

The TDK is an excellent choice! And not just because I have one! ;)

Also, TDK has a $50 rebate on these badboys until the end of March! I'm not sure if Fry's is a 'Participating' retailer though. I suggest you contact TDK and find out though! It's worth a little work for $50 don't ya think?!

Good luck! You're gonna love the drive in any case.

Until recently I didn't have a need to get a writer and so I didn't know how different ones compared. Didn't know what burnproof was either until day. I'd like to thank PaleRider62 for asking and thank (and in particular, bannor11) everyone else who gave recommendations and a definition of burnproof.
