Hi guys, I am choosing between the Ryzen 5 3400G or Ryzen 7 Pro 4750G. I am currently gong APU temporarily until I get a dedicated graphics card. What processor has the better performance overall?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

4750G has twice the cores/threads, double the L3 cache, about 15% higher core performance(IPC) and clocks a bit higher.

It's also much harder to find and nearly 3 times as expensive

The only caveat to all this is the iGPU side of things. If you're willing to overclock the iGPU on the 3400g, and you're willing to do some RAM tuning, the Vega 11 in the 3400g can be faster than the Vega 8 in the 4750g. ITs not by a whole lot, the 4750g can have its iGPU overclocked, and can also run its RAM at a higher speed, assuming that you spent a whole lot on it, and in some cases, it can be faster.

However, on the CPU side of things, the 4750g is significantly faster in both single threaded and multithreaded tasks and in games that are CPU bound.

There is no way I would buy a 4750G. The weak graphic capabilities plus the latency of DDR4 make the apu worthless for gaming and you are going to pay a premium for it to boot. I would buy a 3600 and with the savings buy a cheap discrete card on eBay.

But if you buy an APU, you usually don't have room for a graphic card. Because that's why you go the APU route. So if you have the money, 4750 will destroy the 3400

3600, 3700X. It doesn't matter. You can't game at even 1080P with that apu. The igpu is abysmal no matter how strong the cpu. So why buy it?

"doesn't have room for a graphics card"? Do you think he doesn't even know the size of his own case? I doubt he is doing a build in a matchbox. Almost any ITX case can fit a full size gpu.

If you don't have money for a CPU + dGPU but still need a functioning PC.

Don't be pedantic. He meant budget room.

If its budget, and the 4750g is in play, he can do massively better than it in any number of ways and still have money left over. Assuming a price of $350, which is actually less than the first ten listings for the chip that I saw, and assuming that the RAM and motherboard are kept constant, he can get a 2700x from $180-$215 between amazon and ebay. That leaves him between $170 and $135 to spend on a video card. USed RX 580s are available for about $100 on Ebay, new ones can be had for around $170-180. Rx590s are barely $10 more. If power is an issue, the same performance is available in the RX 5500XT for the same price.

Why did I choose the 2700x? Because, in benchmarks, it's broadly similar to the 4750g. IF he just wants to game, the 3600/x is a better buy.
