do it. if you can softmod it to a 6600 and oc it, it'll be around 9700pro speed.

The name of the card says "MSI NX6200AX-TD128 Geforce 6200 128MB 128-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail" 128mb 128-bit.....but when u scroll down to the Memory section, it says its 64-bit. Which one is it really? And my friend wants to be able to play WoW and Guild Wars at reasonable settings.

i was looking around and i was wondering what would be better:

1. 256 mb / 128 bit

2. 128 mb/ 128bit

since #1 has better specs would it be better? or does the memory limit it? how much better does it make it if the 128bit memory stays the same? thanks.

no. it is a general rule of thumb that 1mb per bit max is a good number. any mopre and you cant use it all. look at the 6200 512mb and the x800xl 512mb. no gian whatsoever.

just bought 1 yesterday :D. $90 shipped + 15 shipped for vga silencer.

:thumbsup:nice deal

but I would wait until the 6800GT's go around ~185
well, that's for next year. i figure ill sell the 9800pro for $65-75 next year and upgrade to a 6800 series for around $90-100

besides, $115 for ultra quiet aint bad considering that a 6600 costs more and is considerably slower and the next step up is in the $140 range(used and new) for a 6600gt with a iffy cooling solution.

Don't bother getting the 256mb version, you will see virtually no difference in performance. You'd need at least a 16 pipe card to make 256mb worthwhile, and the Geforce 6200 only has 4 pipes (or 8 if you softmod).

The ATI 9550 128-bit card is not too bad.

I think this is the best card within your price category. I can't find a benchmark comparing to the 6200, though. The 6200 does come in 64-bit and 128-bit varieties - I'm pretty sure the one linked to above is 64-bit, there is a price jump to the 128-bit cards.

I doubt a 4-pipe 64bit memory card like the 6200 is going to give you decent framerates for MMORPG games like WoW and Guild Wars, unless he plays at moderate resolution and visual settings.

Is there any way he can save up another $30.00 or so and upgrade to a 9800 card?

well, i suggest a used 6200 128bit 128m that the seller has confirmed to be unlockable. that way, it's 8pipe 3vertex shader and usually highly overclockable(450-550core and 600-700memory). When oced and unocked, it'll run around 9700pro speed or 9600xt speed so it will be fast enough.

another vote for a used 9800 pro 128 . You can find them on ebay or FS/FT or on newegg refurb for $80-$90.

If he isn't gaming, he wont tell the difference between a SLI 7800GTX and onboard graphics.

You can get a 6200 refurb for that much.

Nice, because if you have AGP, you MIGHT get it unlocked and OCed to a 6600 (which beats a 9800), plus the added benefit of shader model 3.

Now, for next gen, eh, you wont get much (if any gaming, unless you get it to a 6600 which might help)...for current games, its decent for the price.

If you're not gaming at all, take other suggestions...

A Geforce 4mx is basicly a Geforce2 gts. For 60 bucks you should at least get a DX8 card like a ti4200, or perhaps a used 9500pro or such.
