hello,

i've been hearing alot about AXIA and was wondering what it refered to? i purchased a AMD 1.0 ghz 133 FSB type "c" processor from newegg recently. how can i tell if it's an AXIA? also, i hear people talking about what batch it came from like week 10 or week 13, what is the significance of what week it came from?

i am trying to overclock my AMD 1.0 ghz CPU but am unsure of which bridges i need to unlock. someone said that all you need to do with a type "c" processor is unlock the L1 bridge. is that it? i am running this CPU on a IWILL kk266 mobo.

any input would br greatly appreciated,

thank you in advance,

I was just about to ask that myself. I too just bought a T-Bird 1.33Ghz. How do you know if it's AXIA/AVIA? heck, how do you know the type? type c? type b? Some help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yeah, if you look at the core it will tell you if it is a AXIA, AVIA, etc. I was under the impression the "C" Athlons were unlocked. Meaning you didn't have to mess with the CPU and you can change the multiplier in the BIOS. I had a tray of 1.2Ghz AXIA "Y" that all would easily hit 1.4Ghz without any CPU modifications. I believe they were all week 08. Wish all CPUs were that easy to OC.:) However have had stubborn 1.0 and 1.13 CPUS that didn't do to well. Maybe some are Locked???

Before you unlock any bridges go into your BIOS and try upping the multiplier a setting or two and see if it OC's.

XHuskY; you got in before me! Why do the Axia's Oclock better than Avias, if the Avias are made after the Axias?

AVIA was before AXIA.

Does it matter what week it is or just that it's AXIA.I still have not seen where anyone has said why these overclock better than the rest. Thanks

the axia and avia are steppings of t-birds. The stepping is what batch it was fabricated in, like a batch of cookies, maybe some got cooked too long, some to short, some jsut right. The avia and axia batches are both very high quality chips, thus they overclock well, the axia's slightly better. You can tell by reading the second line on the chip it should say axia0109 which would mean batch axia 2001, week 9. week nine is supposed to be magical. Mine is a week 14 1G that runs at 1405.

All type C axia's or any other stepping do not come unlocked.
To unlock the chip, connect the L1 bridges, anandtech details how to do this with pictures. dont use a pencil, use a conductive pen.

also to note, the last line of axia chips begins with a 'y' or a number. the ones with the 'y' seem to overclock better.
there are even newer steppings comming out axiar for exmple, that are supposedly even better. www.athlonoc.com details them.

hope this answers most of the questions.

Hello, if you look at the top of your CPU you will see the First line says AMD, the second is your AMD part number, 3rd will start with AXIA if it is AXIA.

Have a great day,

My AMD 1200 says this ...

AMD ATHLON
A1200AMS3B
9506365047

This chip was "gauranteed" 1420-1530 ot overclock.

I'm suffering heat issues and its not stable above 1400
Anyone else have this chip? What are your results?

Noid...you're number ends with a B...thats an AVIA processor...my friend just got a "C" from newegg.com...barely stable after hitting 1350...nothing more than that.
