What is ATOT's opinion, CC issue

Lifer
GF bought a service from a company(that she has not yet recieved) and researched more about them and figured out that they were a shady company with many complaints(mainly fraud). She canceled the appointment and asked for a refund on her CC. They say they cant do it unless she gives them her CC number.

I think its bull, they have all the info they need...I would think. She called her bank and they told her not to do it. Obiously she is disputing the charge now, but I want to see what atot thinks.

Thoughts?

Dispute it. Get a new card. They still have the #.

At the very least they have the transaction ID or whatever it is. From my past experience I have never had to give my CC number out for a refund of a CC transaction. Chase said that them asking for it is a sign of a fraudulent company, which I agree with.

I've worked with a number of payment gateway APIs - you often do need the credit card number to complete the refund. It's not that they don't have the number on file in some computer system, it's just that the staff there probably don't have access to view it.

obviously.

this is for the CC company to deal with.

That has also been my experience.

I often have to produce my credit card when I physically walk an item back for a refund. Don't see why it would be different by phone. They must already have your number to have charged you in the first place, no?

I would give them the number if I wanted them to issue a refund to my card. That will be a quicker method of resolving it than disputing with the CC issuer.

Get a new GF.

She isn't smart enough to research her purchases before giving a credit card.

Who buys something.. THEN researches it.

That's a stupid consumer.

Ever noticed how many people here post about having trouble canceling an online order the same day the placed it?

Which is different from:

If she researched the company first... woulda found the fraud complaints... and wouldn't have bought a service in the first place.

a lot of AT does that. I have posted many times shop first then buy, don't buy then whine about lower prices now.

I deal with credits way too much. They should be able to easily request a refund unless they have some crappy payment processor.

If you don't have the exact card you used for the transaction available, you will be given store credit only if you furnish a receipt with said item. If you furnish nothing, you will be given nothing.

And at most places, employees and managers don't have access to CC#'s. The only thing they see are a bunch of stars and the last 4 digits.

wow. it's hindsight that tells you to research a company before giving them money?

i thought it was common sense.

see... what do i know.

Um, so she made a mistake. She knows. You point out that you think she is stupid in several different posts. We got it, you think she is a dumbass. Great, thank you. You can now leave the thread, your point was made.
