Actually it's not. I only know this because I Googled it earlier today just to be sure (for KT's thread), and it turns out that, while in Oregon (where you and I live) filbert is used interchangably with hazelnut, they are actually two distinct nuts. A filbert is closely-related to the common hazelnut, but is techinically a different species.

The more you know.

Oh, and hazelnuts would definitely be the best nut on the list were macadamias not on there... but dayum if them macamadamia nuts don't beat all. I wish I could bring them into work, but we have a nut-free campus (yes, it's stupid and obnoxious).

Okay, but what flavor? I like Picante flavored myself.

My favorite real nut is almond closely followed by all the others that you listed in the poll, OP.
BTW...what is a filbert? I have never heard of it.

I love walnuts, but I picked all of the above because I couldn't picka clear favourite.

Funnily enough the Macadamia is probably my least favourite nut on the list. They just don't have very much flavour at all.

A nut-free campus? I'd kill myself.

Raw, whole cashews (i.e. unsalted and unroasted). Like the imported kind they sell in South Asian, Middle Eastern, and other ethnic grocery stores.

Followed by macadamia nuts. Though I really like macadamia in my cookies (mmm, white chocolate macadamia).

Pistachios are ok, but they aren't consistently good. When you find a good batch of pistachios, though, they can potentially be better than cashews and macadamia nuts. Most of the psitachios sold in stores is over salted, disgusting crap.
